On Positive Mindset: Rock These 8 Fun Steps for Maximum Badaddness

Ready for maximum enjoyment and badaddness on a daily basis?

Then your positive mindset is the ticket. Because the truth is that you, despite all the parts and pieces of you that can be quite a cast of inner characters, can be your own personal cheerleader-in-chief. And on call, as needed, on the daily.

You can in fact allow only helpful thoughts, with a clear call to take a hike to all else that may want its negative say. What’s more, it can be fun, yo!

Ready to play? Just say yes. Then off we go:

1.  Sniff like a bloodhound for negative voices.

You may not have a natural ability to notice “voices” inside you, thoughts that are discouraged or fearful for whatever reason, or that are just plain struggling to trust that the life you want is possible. But like any skill that you work at, you can learn to do this. Let’s go there.

First, work to notice those “you can’t” or “the sky is falling” voices when they strike. The “what does it matter, it’s all bullshit anyway” variety. What else do they say, exactly? Listen closely.

2.  Time to separate.

Next, note that you are separate from whatever that is. You are free not to take negative thoughts at face value, as if they must be true since they came from you. In fact, it’s only a thought, with no more power than you give it.

In fact, a thought is only
a thought,
 with no more power
than you give it.

And with every bit of negativity or fear that you really hear like this, imagine yourself standing apart from it, at arms length, then farther away. Imagine yourself a little taller than a moment ago, with a little less “weight of the world” on your shoulders.

Imagine your good energy still free to engage fully, from a lighter place, in whatever you’re up to. No need to get tipped off track. No need for your outlook, and thus the quality of your actions and choices, to take a sudden nosedive due to inner negativity.

3.  Send unhelpful perspectives packing.

And more, you can actually do this in a fun way, and with compassion. Because in the good work of rocking a positive mindset, I say gentleness matters in conversations with parts of ourselves.

So develop a fun, gentle come-back, or maybe a mantra. For instance: “Thanks for sharing, little green gremlin. I know it means you care.”

Or perhaps a bit of poetry: Roses are red, violets are blue, I hear you talking‘ but I see through you.

Gentleness matters in
conversations with
parts of ourselves.

Or one of those end-of-the-game buzzer sounds:  AAAARRRGGGHHH!

4.  Name the tune that wants to play over and over.

As you get clear on whatever downer vibe tries to periodically take you down with it, try naming this or that terrified voice, negative belief, or doomsday sayer.

After all, you don’t want any such stuff runnin’ your life. Right?

Once identified and tagged—Aunt Bertha, the pundit Whozit from Whatzit, the monster you thought was under your bed in 2nd grade—well, you know what to do.

Or you will now. That’s right. Time to clean house.

5.  Dream up your own special eradication method.

Crank the tunes, calling on all your upbeat faves, and get the trash bags ready. Or, best case for the planet, pile up the junk and then disappear it through the power of your vivid imagination.

Try naming this or that
terrified voice,

negative belief,
or doomsday sayer.

Yep, once you’ve “gathered the garbage”, it’s time for whatever eradication technique you dream up to make your own day. Bury that [beep] in molten lava at the core of the earth. Have friendly aliens transport it to the next deep-space meteor crash point.

Or set its dark energy to work heating homes on the frozen tundra. Um, are there homes on the frozen tundra?

Anyway, imagine your way to a positive mindset. Have fun with it, moment by moment. Brighten your own corner. You can do it. and there’s badaddness in it.

6. Get your inner referee calling out of bounds.

By the way, the negative, critical, or fearful voice you’re naming isn’t actually your Aunt Bertha or that worst-case newscaster, right? It’s their ways and statements that you’ve internalized.

However, if you’re also hearing that draining stuff rather incessantly in your outer life, then it’s time to clean house there, too. This means creating healthy boundaries, whether with well-meaning others who sap your strength or with endless dark news cycles.

Imagine your way
to a positive mindset.

Let your inner referee call the game. When your boundaries get crossed in unhealthy ways, like others telling you who you are, who you’ve gotta be, how to live your life to avoid catastrophe, or what’s possible or not, just call it like you see it. “Time out, scout. Step back, Jack. Stay in your lane, Jane. ” Any or all that.

And despite my having fun with cutting comebacks, remember that gentleness really is key. When we start changing the game on others, the game really does change. Let them see the beauty of that. And know, as you begin calling out inner and outer voices in new ways, that repetition is key, too.

7.  Practice, practice, practice.

Then practice. When this or that inner or outer sermonizer of doom comes around again itchin’ for a soapbox moment—and that’s when, not if, don’t be blindsided by this—just interrupt. Kindly but firmly. Repeat.

It’s like teaching little children. Think consistency. Then act on it. Bring your own positive best to it.

8.  Do this with one hand while you jam with the other.

In the midst of this vital daily, hourly, even minute by minute housekeeping, well, keep acting. Act on your dreams and goals. Which really just means continuing to put one foot in front of the other in action steps that keep you moving in the direction you’ve chosen. Just. Keep. Going.

When we start changing
the game, the game
really does change.

Ultimately your daily efforts to rock a positive mindset will impact the way you feel. The way you think. The actions you take. Thus the results you’ll get. And that’s win-win-win-WIN, my friends.

Because, bottom line, you deserve an amazing lifeBelieve in yourself, and in the rockin’ reality of your satisfying present and future. Keep go-go-going for what you really want. And reach out for expert support on the wild, wonderful journey of 21st century life.
