Teresa Young's beautiful student making beautiful music

Coaching you musically

I teach private music lessons online from the Pacific Time Zone and in my studio in north Los Angeles. My students currently range in age from early childhood to 70-something.

Whether you've found one of my arrangements online and want some support on it, or you want to study piano, voice, ukulele, music reading, or music theory, we’ll tailor our work to match your interests. My goal is always to help you accomplish your unique musical goals.

My Music Mission

My mission is simple: to get my students making music in the ways that matter most to them.

Their consistent work builds focus, confidence, and neurological growth. And periodic chances to share their music create powerful life experiences: the anticipation of imagining that moment, the diligence of working for it, and the deep satisfaction of then doing it! And the best part? These gains affect the rest of their lives.

My Teaching Philosophy

From the time I was small, the adults in my life took my musical interests seriously. So I know the power parents have to foster their children’s musical growth. And I've helped countless adults explore what excites them most, whether a specific instrument, genre, or style.

Through the years I’ve heard over and over:

  • If someone had just supported my interest in music…
  • If my music teacher had been nicer or more patient…
  • If the grownups had listened to what I wanted to learn…

These stories—and the life experiences of my deeply musical sons and granddaughters—inform my approach: to use each student’s musical interests to fuel their growth!

Who are they so far? Who do they want to become? Whether taking small steps or tackling big goals, I say these passions are the keys to helping new music learners become lifelong music-makers.
