Existential Prayer

Inspired by Maya Angelou’s The Mothering Blackness

Make me a woman who lives tenderness like stars falling
+++++into a blue-black blanket of night
+++++into a soaring elegy of night
with so much offered, witnessed, received, borne
+++++Make me a woman who lives tenderness like stars falling

Make me a woman who lives wisdom like ancients calling
+++++into our quickening arc of time
+++++into our hunger for depth in time
with so much suffered, recovered, re-conceived, re-born
+++++Make me a woman who lives wisdom like ancients calling

Make me a woman who lives life as mystery spiraling
+++++along a path of loving toward its end
+++++along a path of learning toward its end
with so much seeded, tasted, cherished, and still unknown
+++++Make me a woman who lives life as mystery spiraling
